Thinking of buying a Nexus One

Hi all!

This is my first post on the Android Forums. I am a T-Mobile customer intent on buying an android device as my next phone. I was wondering whether I should get the Nexus One, as I wouldn't have to wait for Froyo, or pick up the Samsung Vibrant (Galaxy S) in a couple of weeks, since it has the superior display and will eventually (yes, I'm aware of Samsung's lack of haste in updating its android phones) pick up Froyo.

I had some concerns and questions about both phones. I've read that the Nexus One's AMOLED display fares pretty poorly in sunlight, with some reviews calling it "unusable". This is probably my main concern.

As for the Galaxy S, my main issues are with the allegedly "plasticky" build quality, and the touchwiz UI. I have yet to hear or read of someone disabling the UI for stock 2.1 (although I have seen videos of the galaxy s running launcherpro).

Build quality is a big concern for me, as I am a former iPhone user who really loved how the original iPhone felt in hand.

I'd love to hear from owners/users of one or both of these phones, I'm really at a bit of a crossroads, with the Vibrant dropping for t-mobile in a matter of weeks.

i have owned a nexus one now since january and here are my responses to your raised concerns.

Screen in sunlight. i live in Florida, sun light all the time, in mid day (brigest) during summer, i can use my screen perfectly with no problems. if the light is on the right angle you can get glare (like any reflective surface) but thats only a minor half degree move. now to use this you need to set the screen on its most powerful display setting (which by default there is a hotkey on the screen for you to do) all in all, if i can use it anyoen should be able to.

my nexus one has not a single scrath, dent, mark, defect of any kind on it. i have no screen protector or case on it, the only thing i have is the fabric phone sleeve you get with the phone, and it stays in my pocket all day. it has taken a couple falls, and hasnt scratched (about 1-2foot fall unto a hard surface) i have also sat on it, rolled on ot, been hit, ran into or otherwise caused impact to the phone. the phone sleeve has a few "dents" where it took blows, but the phone has not shown a single mark, if i use a microfiber cloth to clean the prints of screen it would look just like i bought it.

i cant say anything for the other phone, but i can say that the Nexus One is performing awesomely. its worth noting i have not rooted my phone, mostly cause i dont want to void the warrenty, but its remained lightning fast. thsi morning i got the froyo update and now its blazing. i had alot of fun with my apple friend playing flash games whiel he couldnt. i would recommed this phone to anyone, and if you have any other questions about it let me know.
