This is driving me crazy...How long does a number port usually take???

OK...I signed up yesterday and got an EVO at about 2pm CST and my number has still not been ported by AT&T.:mad:

How long does it normally take???

This gorgeous device sitting here and I can't use it. Arggg..
 
Mine was almost instant. When I left my number was ported. They probably gave your number away by accident
 
I used to be in the telecom business. (Wireless, Internet, pagers, home phone service, long distance, etc.)
I used to see this issue occassionally and AT&T seemed to be the worst at releasing numbers. You may have to call customer service and have them escalate your issue to get it resolved. Good Luck.
 
It shouldn't take long at all... Should be instantly... I didn't get mine port but the rep said it takes a few minutes tops as long as your old account is in good standing...
 
Should never take more than 4 hours or the carrier pays a fine. It's illegal to withhold porting for any reason.
 
this might sound dumb, but did you restart your phone?

also, go into settings and 'about phone' and try to update your firmware/prl/software etc....sometimes that will restart your device and get it going.....
 
I was in the same situation and had to call the porting department to get it fixed. The salesman at the sprint store put my old account number in wrong so they couldn't port it. Call them and get it taken care of now.
 
Yes. Fix asap. Once your number is given away, you're screwed. Don't cancel old service until after port is complete. Carrier has a right to recycle number if you cancel service before porting.
 
they might have you change settings on your phone i know i had to for the switch to happen cus they told me it could take up to 72 hrs but once i changed settings they told me to change it worked right away
 
Took about 15 minutes and did it online with a chat rep - that was 2 lines from VZW... Sounds like the phone reset and check the number.
 
Mine was instant, called Sprint, they contacted T-Mobile, and switched it.
I had to go into some config mode and change the number the phone displays as it's own.
 
when i got my moment (ordered online) i called to activate it and they told me it would take 3 days. i said that was unacceptable and they did it in about 20 mins. i guess some people will just accept that it takes that long and it gives them time to do more of them on a better timescale when you complain. call customer service at sprint AND att. make it BOTH their problems.

It's always best to talk to the new carrier. New carriers can initiate ports, and old carriers MUST honor them. Simple ports should take no longer than a few hours. Only landine-cellular ports and small carrier-large carrier ports should take more than a few hours.

That's what happened with The Wife's line. The store rep transposed a couple of numbers, and it took a very long and frustrating support call with 3 different people to get it corrected. The first two, both "not from here" :rolleyes: , couldn't understand what I was telling them. "This is not my wife's phone number. The 8 and the 9 need to be switched around."
