Help This phone is awful.

GF never had a smartphone before so we got it at Radio Shack for $60 and it came with a free $10 store credit so it was only $50 for the phone.

At first the phone would shut down by itself randomly 5 or 6 times a day, after looking on the internet I discovered the battery was not tight against the terminals and stuck a piece of paper under the battery to jack it up slightly and that solved that issue.

And for about a month all was well in the world.

Now the phone has started to become unstable and the screen goes black right in the middle of doing things, sometimes pressing the button will bring the screen back up and other times the phone will not respond to anything and will remain dead until its plugged into a charger and then the phone reboots and works again. This happens no matter what the charge level of the phone happens to be.

I should have known $50 was too good to be true for a decent smartphone.

anyone know if the OS can be upgraded or reloaded or reset back to where it will work normally again?

Welcome to Android Forums, bum. Sorry you're having such serious issues with that Event.

The battery issue is troubling because it could mean damaged contacts in the battery well. Take a close look to see if anything is amiss in there around the area where the battery is supposed to fit against the copper colored contacts in there.

If you do need to do a hard reset, that could resolve the other issues you mention. There is an instructive video at YouTube on doing the factory data reset for the Event:

Good luck. Let us know how things progress for you; we're here to help get it going as it is supposed to. :)
