This phone is NOT Ultra delicate :)

This is in reply to the other thread where it states the phone is ultra delicate.

So I opened this thread for people to report the abuse their phones have taken intentional or un-intentional :)

I will start :)

The other evening I was mountain biking with friends with my trusty S3 on my back tracking my progress with MyTracks.

We took a "NEW" trail down the mountain and we were really moving. It was near dark so we were trying to get back before total nightfall. As it turns out there was a roughly 3 foot wide wash that was ~ 2 foot deep that went directly through this new trail at the bottom of a hill!

As you may have already guessed I did not fully make it :). I almost cleared it but I was going about 15 - 20 MPH and only saw it at the very last second. Anyways I went "ENDO" :).

Since I have been riding for sometime you always know to roll through an accident so I did. With my trusty S3 on my back near my right shoulder. I rolled completely through the S3 with full weight on my backpack/hydro pack. Some may think no biggie but I am a big fella. I am 6' and well over 200lbs.

I place my S3 in the top pocket of my pack (best GPS location) with the screen purposefully pointing towards my back. Just for times like this.

I had my phone in an Acase SuperLeggra Dual Layer Case. It turns out the phone and the case were not harmed at all. I know they were both hit HARD because of the trail rash on my shoulder through my shirt and the trail rash on my pack right where my phone was.

So I give props to both the Acase Superleggra and to the S3. They both took a really hard hit and survived admirably.

I can not say the same for my helmet! It cracked in 3 -4 places (all the way through).

So as I said in the case thread +10 to the S3 +10 to the Case and +100 maybe even +1000 to my helmet!

I respectfully disagree. I was waiting for my case to show up tomorrow, and yesterday the phone slipped out of my hand onto the concrete (so like a 2 1/2 foot drop) and landed on one side and the other side cracked/shattered the screen. Thankfully I have insurance through Isurion and so (apparently) all I need to do is take it to a Sprint store and they'll put on a new screen for free (has anyone done this?).

But the thing scratches and dings VERY easily in comparison to my OGEvo that was dropped numerous occasions from much higher and never even got a dent.

This thing is really fast and smooth, but delicate nonetheless.

Sorry Bupolo but there are always going to be "incidents" that will take out a phone. Even mine. If you look at the torture test video where Molly Wood dropped the phone from much higher the phone still worked well. It is often a matter of HOW it fell like did you hit a corner or flat or ... or ...

Sorry you ended up with issues. But mine has been admirable.

Beyond that I would like to keep this thread to the originally stated goal:

So I opened this thread for people to report the abuse their phones have taken intentional or un-intentional :)

Since we already have the delicate thread :)

Exaggerated story is exaggerated. But you helped me kill two minutes at work so for that Im grateful.

In my head I imagine you screaming "do a barrel roll!" as this was happening.

I'll go ahead and +1 this... I haven't had anything as rough but have dropped the device twice. Had a rubberized TPU case and a zagg shield on it and came up without so much as a scratch or nick.

So I assume this is a Thread that's supposed to be the complete opposite of the Thread I put up that reads...

This phone is Ultra Delicate.

Lol to that!!!

I agree on the killing 2 min at work.

And I agree to the fact of maybe its your case that you should thank and not your phone.

Try pulling that circus trick with out a case on your phone and then tell us all how you fared. The GS3 is a fine phone, one of the best out right now, if not the best. But I'm sorry man, this phone is delicate, it does scratch easy, and it will get badly scuffed or damaged if you drop it. However those issues exist with many phones, however Samsung is widely known for making plastic phones that while having killer specs are fragile and delicate...

And what have we learned? Those internet videos aren't credible ;)

Great, she showed it can get cold and hot. Her drop tests had no control over how they hit

"OMG it came on!"

Also dropping on tile=/= dropping onto cement.

Lato there is NO exaggeration here. I can tell you it hurt :) If I had exaggerated I would have made it across the wash unharmed while maybe doing an in air 360 depending on level of exaggeration :)

Instead I put my lack of skills on display for all to see :)

Actually I did pretty well to not get hurt much worse and I NEARLY cleared it but nearly obviously does not count in this situation :)

I do agree with some that the case helped. But the device took the hit inside the case and it was a hard hit.

Maybe I will post pics of my helmet to give an understanding :)

Sean I meant no disrespect to your or your thread. I was just giving my experiences. I have also had my phone since launch and the screen is pristine even though I do not have a protector on in. No scratches to the screen. I also remove my phone from the case at least twice per day to car mount in the supposedly tight Infuse car dock. The bezel has not scratched yet.

I just hope this helps just like I am sure you are making sure you get your info out.

I am a proponent of a case for sure.

I have seen a lot of posts about screens shattering after fairly minor drops. I have also seen a few posts where people say they have survived drops were they could have shattered. I guess all this discussion serves a good purpose though if it makes us treat the device with respect. Personally I am treating my S3 like it could break at any moment until I get it in a decent case.

Cool beans...

What color is your phone?
What case are you rockin?

I wrecked my motorcycle at 90 mph when an old guy hit me on the turnpike. I had my old LG Chocolate in my pocket and it went flying. While I came out broken, the Chocolate came out unscathed. It was naked, I was armored.

I hope this isn't taken as being rude, because I am not trying to be. Go to every other thread out there re: the iPhone, HTC, Motorola and on and on. Someone always hates the phone they have. Every phone is fragile so to speak. I have had two cracked iPhone screens (one of which fell out as I was getting out of my car-maybe 2-3 feet and cracked the screen), broke an HTC Inc. and my original Droid I ran over with the back tire of my ATV and cracked it. And I am not even going to mention all the phones I lost to water damage. I usually have three active phones going at a time because I am so rough on them. The only phone I had that took a beating and lasted more than a year was my Casio Commando. Every phone sucks ....at something. Every forum has members that hate the phone they are using and he/she wants everyone to know how much the phone sucks.

Don't know why everyone seems down on the Samsung phones feeling cheap and using plastic. Plastic will absorb a drop ahelluva lot better than metal. Some things got to give. If the phone was all metal the screen would take the blow.

My GS3 is wrapped in the Acase as well and when I ride, I load it half way down the camalback facing in with a zip lock bag over it. No breaks yet, but I haven't fallen on it yet either. ;) I figure if I do the water bladder will act like the cushion of a water bed.

I am helping my son get his Cycling Merit Badge so my son, my trusty S3 (my tracks app), my new helmet and I are doing a 25 Miler after work this evening. Should be fun. This is mostly double track tonight and pretty uneventful terrain so I should NOT have much to report this evening for this thread :)

He has two 25 mile rides and one 50 mile ride left to get his badge.

Wish us luck :)

Nobody has any toughness reports for the S3? I thought Rushmore had already tested his S3 on a couple occasions :)

Yeah, my S3 has slowly slid off the edge of my bed and has 2 deep dents in it's plastic border. Bourbur carpet. Bed less than 2 feet off the floor. Not impressed.

Also, from laying it down (gently at that) onto my nightstand for just about 2 weeks now. I also have the same screen hash marks that my Evo 3D developed some 1 year after use. This stuff sure isn't gorilla glass, that's for sure.
-By hash marks, I mean it looks like hairline scratches under direct sunlight. Already have 5 of them, about an inch long on the upper left corner. My old Evo 3D took over a year before those started showing up. I didn't give that phone any special treatment either.
