Thos pesky screen protectors!

I bought a 3-pack of screen protectors at the Verizon store last night and the sales clerk installed one for me. After I left the store and went shopping elsewhere, I noticed that there were a couple of bubbles. I could feel them and they wouldn't push out so I suspected they weren't just bubbles, but were specks under the film. So I returned to the store, which was closed, I asked for a replacement pack but the guy there said he would fix it for me (but I had to wait outside). When he gave me back my phone, the bubbles were gone and it looked okay. However, the next day, during daylight, I noticed that the film was quite crooked with a gap on one side and overlapping the edge of the phone on the other. So I returned to the store again, asked for them to give me a replacement film, and told them I would install it myself (I didn't have any problems installing the protectors on my Droid X).

So tonight I tried installing one of the protectors and had a lot harder time than I had with the my last phone. First I ended up with quite a few bubbles, and after doing some research on the Web, used a credit card to smooth some of them out. But then there were still a number of of bubbles left and I found out that if one suspects it's lint, not just air, to use scotch tape to remove the specs. But after several tries, I was still getting a lot of spots on the lower part of my screen so I thought I must have ruined the film by now. I was just about to give up and break out another screen protector but decided to try one more time. This time, I put strips of scotch tap sticky side down on the screen on the lower half of the phone, and more sticky side up under the film. Then I methodically worked out the bubbles with the credit card and removed the scotch tape as I moved down the screen. I finally got everything smooth, with the exception of two very tiny specks on the edge of the tilm. It probably took five or six attempts and I didn't have to throw away a screen protector.:D
