Thoughts on LTE Advanced and network refarming

Just figured I'd make a thread about LTE Advanced. What's everyone's thoughts on it? Would you rather have gotten HSPA 84 or are you happy about LTE?

I myself would've rather like HSPA 84, but hey I like LTE Advanced too! :D what do you think about the network refarming to 1900?

Right now I think T Mobile is doing everything right and I felt it was worthy of a post to show T Mobile's progress and such. I'm confident in saying that T Mobile is going to one of the top two carriers not too long from now and as soon as my contract is up with VZW I'm heading over to T Mobile. :D

Well, even with HSPA+ 42 we never really get anything over 10Mbps. Honestly, what would real life speeds be for 84? Myself, I'm pretty content with what we've got. It's almost everywhere for t-mobile (still have yet to find a coverage map that specifies t-mobile's 4g) and it's fast. I figure if they keep the iPhone out it will stay that way.

Meanwhile, Sprint only really has 3G and it averages 200 Kbps and dropping thanks to there plan to add the iPhone to boost and VM as well.

I'd be happier w/HSPA 21 "on a lower frequency band (e.g. 700)", than LTE on 1900. Sux having full bars/-75dBm signal in a parking lot, only to completely lose signal by going inside the supermarket.

I'm pretty satisfied with HSPA+ 42 right now. I usually get between 12-24mbps depending on what part of town I'm in. Could only imagine what HSPA+ 84 would bring. But LTE is supposed to be better all around and more future-proof than HSPA+ so I guess T-Mobile is doing the right thing. Also don't want them to be the only network without an LTE network.

I'm excited about the vast number of devices that we will be able to use on T-Mo once the refarm is complete. Pretty much every GSM phone will be compatible. Even if they don't get the iPhone, I expect a massive influx of iPhone users and former AT&T customers. T-Mo will also be the network of choice for international travelers in the US due to their more completive prices compared to AT&T. I wonder what affect it will have on the network as far as the load it can bear.

I want to see what they get from Verizon.
Obviously Verizon had to buy the silence of T-Mobile so they could get that spectrum from the cable companies.

Good long term move... increasing the number of HSPA carriers is not going to help them down the road.

LTE advanced is the way to go IMHO.
IIRC the new LTE advanced gear can be configured to have GSM (EDGE) and H+ carriers alongside LTE-A?

If that's the case they should just upgrade everything and give GSM 5Mhz across the whole network and start migrating people off the GSM network.

As a side bonus they could upgrade the EDGE network to E-EDGE which would double the speed of the network.
IIRC they just need to push some radio updates, unless modern handsets support E-EDGE.
Might get some additional life out of it... but I doubt they ever consider it.

I'm glad that T Mobile isn't getting the iPhone 5 because I'm pretty sure their network would end up like AT&T's when they got the iPhone.
