Thumbs down to Jackson Hewitt

So I typically file for an extension every year. I never owe, so it's no big deal. Quick and easy to fill out the form, but then it's a trip to the post office plus the cost of a stamp, you have to pay for delivery confirmation (big penalties if the IRS says they didn't get it, even if you don't owe), etc.

I see on the IRS.gov site there are lots of resources to supply a free extension form, so I pick Jackson Hewitt as it's a respected name and I'm guessing their security will be pretty good. Have to create an account of course, and after poking around on the site for a few minutes I give up and use the search function to start the process. I get to the end and the options are to print or submit the form. I choose print so I can preview it and part of it looks a little wonky, I don't want to send it to the IRS like that.

But guess what. I can't find the form I just completed. I still only have the option to print or submit. Pop up the chat window, guy isn't paying too much attention to what I've written, eventually it's clear that my option is simply to start over. Seriously? I mean it's not a complicated deal, but this is insane.

So I ask him how to just delete my account, and he says they will forward the request, it will take 10-14 days.

Good {insert expletive(s) here} grief.

So much for things being easier to just e-file it.
