Wasn't sure exactly where to place this so I decided on the general forums. If it needs to be moved and is in the wrong area, I apologize ahead of time, and please move it accordingly to the correct forums.
So now that that's out of the way, this is about the tile format.....it seems that it started with windows phones but is gradually phasing over to other phones as well....I give you this link Samsung Galaxy TabPRO 8.4 First Look! [CES 2014] - YouTube as well as this link Nokia Lumia 1520 Review - YouTube
So is this how phones are going to be now?
I personally am not a fan of the tile format, but HTC already has it, now it looks as if nokia and samsung are following suite also.
I do realize that you can use a home launcher of choice ie: apex, adw, nova, etc..., but from what I've seen quite a few people aren't a real big fan of the tile format.
For me personally it takes away from the wide variety of customization, and limits it to a single tile screen......this is no better than iphones OS.....every iphone you see is "basically" the same phone, yet you look around and compare android phones, each and every one has a slightly if not drastically different look to it, ie: themes, wallpapers, picture frames of loves ones, different amounts of windows, etc...etc... so it makes it an individual experience as apposed to being pretty much the same across the board.
To me you see one iphone, or windows phone, you've seen them all. With android phones, and the customization of it all, I find myself looking over people's shoulder, not being nosey at all, just curious as to what their screens look like and what they chose to use as a theme or background, and sometimes adopting the same screen and/or theme, and such.
Don't get me wrong, I am not an iphone hater or a windows phone hater, they ALL do what the person using it wants, and I'm good with that, they all have their benefits for the person using that phone, just for me I like customizability that iphones and windows phones lack in that department.
I just don't like losing or being pushed into that format, but it seems it's phasing slowly to that format.
As much as I dislike Touchwiz, I much prefer it over iphone/tile/windows style.

So that given, why is the tile format so appealing to companies and why the change to something that's already there in other phones already? Has intuitiveness and originality just gone out the window now and we've lost all ability to be original?
