Those of us who do play whether amateur like me or pro (I guess...) will have made decisions along the line.

From my own view point, to play with others is absolutely wonderful so no mistake in liking music.

But.

I really wish I'd have learned the violin never realised how versatile it is until I was older.

I really wish that even with the GDAE frets I did learn, I wasn't so stuck in (though things like using an open A are nice) open position playing.

I wish I'd have been more open to classical music than I was as a child.

Not trying to be doom and gloom here but asking anything that you feel may have added to what every you do at what ever level/

A year ago i was trying to learn to play the electric guitar. :thrasher: I became overstressed at work :burnout: and stayed at home for 2 months. Those 2 months i studied a lot, but when i started working again, the guitar stayed in de corner of the livingroom.

And it still is today.
Long time ago , when i was 19 or so , we had at school a rockband and the guy who played the drums, couldn't be there every time we practice. So i took his place when he was not around. I'm still looking at drums and guitar players when i'm at a concert.

Taste in music: When i was 8 years of age, i listened to illegal radio stations. They where stationed on ships that lay in the English Channel. Radio Caroline and Radio Mi Amigo where popular stations in the 60's & 70's In those days i liked rock ,n roll , and even the hard rock that was coming up with Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and The Who.

Ik still like that kind of music, but i begin to like other music as well.
I'm 48 years young, and still discovering new music.
