The camera in my Samsung Galaxy S (Sprint) has a significant shutter lag. It can be pretty annoying when I'm trying to capture my son's very fleeting smile.
TRICK I've discovered (which may be common knowledge, but a quick scan of the internet doesn't show anyone else talking about it):
Point camera, push the button in and hold it in until you want to take the picture. When you want to snap the picture - just release the button. Saves ~a few seconds and has enabled me to catch Charlie's smile.
Thanks,
Phil
