Help Tips for 8-9'' for technical reading and extensive note keeping

Hi there!

I am looking to buy a tablet. I can use some advice for that, as I am novice to the field.

My use will mainly be reading books in pdf format, underlining & keeping notes both in the pdf itself as well as in separate text files. I am a computer engineer and I read lots of technical books, mainly on programming. I keep notes in text files. I currently do it at my desk and would like to be able to effectively do it when on public transportation, or simply lying in my back yard. :)
Other uses will be browsing, videos/films watching, musing, etc. I already do these in my android phone (Samsung S3 Galaxy), so I guess it won't be an issue on any android device.

I think, the optimal size will be a display of 8-9 inches.
A stylus could be really valuable to optimise the noting process. Do I need to buy a tablet that comes with a stylus, or can I simply buy a stylus separately? Is there a difference in precision? Do you recommend an app to use with the stylus?

I am already using Acrobat reader to read novels in my Samsung S3, but I do not do major noting there, only a few unknown words. For editing my note text files in Android, I need a simple text editor. I have used Jota+ in my phone for simple tasks. Any editor recommendations?

I appreciate your comments in general, as it is all a bit unclear to me.
Thank you!
