Tips for studying?

For me, it helps to write notes  I know, I know, paperless is the future... but it works for me. Hell, I've got a box of old notebooks and legal pads from old classes. I keep 'em for some reason.

Though, typed notes means you can grep em. Much nicer. I've had teachers in all different levels go over 'effective' studying... and you know what? They were all different. I'd say the best 'studying' tip is:
1. Go to class. Especially in college. You're paying for it.
2. Do homework. I know, what a geek. But usually, the homework helps to build on the lessons.
3. Pay attention. If you're playing online games like that one where you're a penguin trying to fly off the iceberg ... well, you won't get much out of that particular router lesson. :/

Have fun.

TOTALLY agree bruizer!

:-)

You get the "Official Stamp Of Stinky's Approval of Nothingness!" :):):)

Now what I LOVE to do is that I like to "feel" what I am writing down... :)

I get an electronic copy like you did of my material (if I can!!!! waaaaay better and I'll tell you why ek se!)

I get the electronic (preferably! but if not then fecal matter (POOP!) happens... :( le sigh! :D anyway poo happens! :)) because...

I CAN SEARCH exactly what I am looking for with the PC!

:-)

Just hit (usually depends - if your PDF viewer was made in the 1500's then no! :)) "ctrl f" to go search or find just what you might want to look for! ;)

You just can't do this with a loser paper book!

:-)

(please understand I am not hater towards anybody here ek se about tech that is over 10 000 years old!!! :D - on a ROLL bruizer!)

BUT what I LOVE to do is write write write and WRITE OUT my personal notes some more! ;)

It makes you:

A) Remember what you are writing out.

B) Makes you "physical" and "part of the physical world" (not a joke it keeps you fresh actually.) and makes you feel physically prepared for when you need to write out half of ******* Mount Rushmore for the exam time! ;)

This is what I love to do to help grasp and understand it all.

I was a ******* ******ed loser dumb ass my last exam though!!!

I was a super dumb ass... I went into waaaaay too much detail about how to make a SIMPLE program wasting my time to make it fancy and had to RUSH the last fracking almost 1 HOUR because I was just soo stupid I did not do no where NEAR enough technique....

****.

Anyway!

:-)

We all live (and wast our time trying to be fancy!) and learn!

;-)

Your right, this doesn't help much.. ahaha
Anyway, so far what has been working was reading the chapter like 5 times, and taking notes every time, and using them on the online quizzes. I'm still going to ask my classmate if he wants to start a study group, that will be helpful, and better because we can all keep each other on track while studying.
I studied for an hour before the quiz today, and ended up with an 86% 13/15 on the quiz !! So proud of my studying as it paid off!!!

Well grats, keep doing what you are doing then! It's not a sprint, it's a marathon. :p

I coasted through high school without needing to study and got pretty good grades. I coasted through college (computer science) and should have studied more and got less than stellar grades. I've been out of school for 10 years, and maybe the most important thing I've learned is that everybody is going to fail at some point; it's how you deal with it that matters.

Since I've been out of school I've taken 2 professional certification exams and crushed them. For the first one (Sun Certified Java Programmer), there were books dedicated to passing the exam. I read the prep book cover to cover. I worked the end of chapter problems. I took notes (handwritten) on the material. I think handwriting connects me to the information far better than typing. I made flashcards, too. I'd try to anticipate what questions would come on the exam, and made a flashcard for each one. The plethora of online mock exams helped here. Once I was done with the book, I had about 50 flashcards. 3 times a day, I'd go through the flashcards, with a "got it right" pile and a "got it wrong" pile. When I could go through them all without putting one in the "got it wrong" pile, I knew I was close to ready for the exam.

Short version: Handwrite, read, practice questions, flashcards. Try to either "do" the material (probably much easier with programming than psychology, probably more ethical too) or "talk" the material. Of read, talk, do, try to do at least 2 of the 3.

Ohh **** I completely messed up on my essay that is due today, or due before the midterm. The essay is suppose to be 5-7 pages long and my essay is only 3 pages. ... I need to make it longer. A lot longer. Oh boy how am I going to do that?

Edit good thing I have a chill teacher. I'm able to rewrite it again. I need to improve that.. the whole class depends on 4 essays.

Just relax. You'll do fine :)

I'm sure I will, but I just don't have the time to add to the paper this week, good thing its not officially due until October haha. My teacher is weird like that.

Tomorrow, I'll ask Casey to start a study group. Based on the class discussion today, I think some students need it more than I do...I mean, the difference between an experiment and correlation is obvious to me, because I read studied. But it was tough for other students. That was chapter 1, I wonder how they did on the challenging Chapter 2, the structure of the brain.

tam noticing that W hile I am studying
