Tired of the unsearchable

So, for quite a while I have been watching and searching for certain help on many things that are new to me. Yeah, sorry, ragidy mom who is behind on the tech phone world. But I am tired of trying to search for specific info and finding hundreds of threads that MIGHT pertain to my question. I work over 40 hours a week and have 3 teen boys, I don't have time to just scroll through all threads to see if I get lucky on finding my answer. And ALL forums are like this!!!!! I like this one the best, just needed to vent on maybe someone that might be in charge to organize this one a bit better. Remember, fast moving world, and fast moving people!!! Search engine can't even pick up on words to help. I don't know, maybe I'm expecting too much. I just think with today's internet capabilities, I should be able to type my question and get an answer, not a thousand opinions!!!!!!!

Welcome to Android Forums!

Search syntax can make or break the relevancy of the results. If a general list of keywords doesn't immediately get me a result, I'll narrow it down by using specific phrases. If you put your search phrase in quotes, Google will search for that exact phrase. Still, just because the phrase matches doesn't mean the answer is relevant or correct, and with every failed novelist and his brother blogging these days, you will get 20 regurgitated opinions for every tidbit of information.

When it comes to Android, however. This is the place, because we have these wonderful dedicated, intelligent, knowledgeable, experiences (and modest) guides to help you out. Let us know what device you've got and we can point you in the right direction.

Honestly, the search engine on most forums is a nightmare. For example.

Now if I search for "htc evo 4g" I get "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms. " What the heck? It is a phone.

If I search for htc evo 4g root. I get every thread that has the term "root" in it regardless of the htc evo 4g.

So the better way to search.

If I go to google and search for "htc evo 4g root site:androidforums.com"

I get htc evo 4g: all things root thread on this forums.

If you want to cut down the search time, don't use the forums search function. Use google instead. Just add "site:"address of site"" in google.

Like ROI above, I too gave up on using the search "feature" here long ago. It pretty much never got me close to what I was looking for. Searching from Google gets me to relevent results much, much faster.

the search engine in the forum has a minimum of 4 letter words.. so "EVO", "4G", "htc" dont come back with anything.. but "root" does.

.. go into your phone sub-forum.. find a thread that is close to what you are looking for... and post your question there.

ps.. welcome to the forum

use the link below, it's much better

the search on this forum sucks

I have searched for the exact thread I want, word for word, and it fails to find it.

If you cant find what you are looking for. Then make a post and ask. I think its what a forum is for?

There are a couple of ways you might be able to get more relevant results.

1) do an advanced search
2) search titles instead if whole posts
3) display post results instead if entire threads

There are a couple of ways you might be able to get more relevant results.

1) look in the shoebox under your bed
2) go to Apple
3) ask Sarah Palin

Yeah, the search function here is that bad. It is "heuristically challenged" more than a hooker with a vaccum cleaner inside a reverse wind tunnel.

Just use google to search, as per the link in my signature. In fact, I think the forum admins should just link the Search button to google.
