tmobile,mytouch 4g password locked

i got a mytouch 4g from a friend and no longer am able to contact him, i purchased a new battery and when i powered up the phone it says password required, i have put alot of money into getting battery phone, and i had to buy another phone from best buy for the sim card out of it. t-mobile said try holding the home key and back key and try pressing power then release power and continue holding the back key and home and wait tell a skatebord guy appears, it never did, help me please

Hello and welcome to the forum. I guess your friend 'inadvertently' forgot to give you the password. That's not good at all.
