Root Touch screen not working

I think I bought a bricked Motorola Cliq xt, All I know is that while the phone technically boots up it takes ridiciously long to time to load up. When it finally does the touch screen is completely unresponsive. I can press the hard set buttons but this phone as it stands is a brick that powers on. I bought this phone on ebay and the ad said nothing about it being modded or rooted. Could this be a result of having a custom recovery and doing a factory reset? I emailed the seller to see she has to say. I really don't want to have to go through the hassle of returning this and finding a new used moto cliq to buy :-s

also the track pad only partially works, I can click it to select however I can not moe it.
