Found the problem with help from Google rep.... Seems when I added AVG to my phone. it asked to allow various access to things and it appears that the "Talkback" in accessibility was turned on... This if for the blind and other disabilities... which almost totally locked the phone.... I had to tap the daylites out of it and do a search in settings to get to accessibility to turn it off...I guess the phone only oprates thru voice commands in this mode..What do I know.. Anyway. all is well now... So just be careful about turning on the Talkback as it may lock up your phone.....
