Touchscreen unresponsive periodically

Hi,
I have a Micromax Yuphoria and since last few days, the touch screen is becoming unresponsive. It accepts input for a window of about 1 sec and then its unresponsive for about 6 seconds. Then again it accepts input for 1 second.
Has anyone seen this before?
Is this a hardware or software issue?
I took it to the service center and they said that they will first try to fix it in software (reimage). And if that doesn't help, replace the touch screen.
I doubt if they will ever find the real root cause.

Any help is welcome.

Sounds like it could be an intermittent touch digitizer problem, i.e. hardware, and it needs replacing.

We don't get too many posts about Micromax(Indian manufacturer) devices on here, although there are a few members from India.

Such a thing had happened to my Samsung. I did a system cache clean and it got fixed.

Hi Mike, I just thought that if its some Android issue, I might get some hints on this forum.
Daniel, I cleaned the cache partition from recovery, but am not seeing any difference.
So I guess it might be the digitizer's hardware problem after all.
