I'm still toying around with the idea of buying another [additional] vehicle. I had my eye on Scion but think I've moved on now. In keeping with my multi-decade love affair with Toyota, and also wanting to do what many other aging baby boomers in their 50s do--buy a sports car!--I started looking at the Toyota MR2. It's discontinued, so I'd have to buy used, which I don't normally do and would be somewhat wary of.
The weird thing is that Consumer Reports really doesn't have ratings for the MR2. Oh, you can select it from their list of cars they've reviewed, but everything shows up as "N/A" instead of an actual rating.
I've found a few MR2s here in SoCal, ranging from 2000-2003 (I believe they were made up until 2005). They're reasonably priced (up to about $13,000), and have relatively low mileage (under 100,000), and appear to be in very good condition; their CarFax reports are clear. I'm only considering cars with traditional, manual transmissions.
I guess I'm just wondering...WONDERING! It's Toyota, so odds are there won't be any drastic mechanical issues, even though I'd be buying it used. Any input on any of this?
