how can i transfer contact from htc phone to a samsung galaxy s3

There are a couple of ways to do it:
1. upload all of your contacts to your google account, then sign in to your new phone with that account. The contacts will transfer automatically.
2. If you have all of your contacts stored on SIM card, you should be able to export the contacts as a CSV file. You can either upload the CSV file to your Google account, or you can import it into your S3 and populate the contacts as phone contacts.
Personally, I highly recommend putting the contacts on your google account. I've had to swap phones 5-6 times in the last 3-4 years since I converted to Android. It is very nice to simply sign in to your account and have all the contacts already there.
