Help Transfer contacts from old flip phone?

I have an old Samsung flip phone (a D810 or an A900--not sure which) and I'm looking to transfer contacts to a new Android phone (a Oneplus One). Is doing this possible? Is there a way to do it via Bluetooth, for example? Or do I have to go through my contact list and enter them manually into my new phone?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Export the flip phone contacts as a .CVS file. Then import the .CVS file to your Gmail (aka Google) contacts online. Sync the Gmail contacts to the new phone and you're good.

Thanks so much for your help! This is great.

Just one quick follow up question: what is involved in exporting the contacts as a .CVS file. Where do I export them to and how does that work?

Sorry--I realize this is probably a very, very basic question. I'm not really familiar with this, and my 65 year old uncle was hoping I could help him (came to the wrong guy:confused:).

I can only guess just how it works on the flip phone. Maybe something like connect the phone to a PC via USB cable and export the .CVS file directly to the computer. If you have the old phone manual or can find it online, that should tell you how to do it.

Once you get the .CVS file on the PC, log into the Google account used on the new phone and import it to the Gmail contacts.

Or...you might be able to get your service provider to do the transfer at one of their stores.

I remember that the old Samsung flip phones supported Bluetooth for file and contact transfer - I only ever used it on my Mac and I think it did contacts as vcf files.

If true, as Crashdamage says, those will transfer to the Gmail account as easily as a csv file, and from there, will auto sync to the Android.

Do you have a pc with Bluetooth?

Not sure if you can go directly to an Android via Bluetooth for this, sorry.

I was just guessing...I haven't had a flip phone since the original RAZR. And I've never had anything made by Samsung. But I seem to vaguely remember that old RAZR would hookup to a PC via USB. Gotta think that the Samsung can too. Bluetooth would be nice.

And I'm thinking it will probably export .CVS instead of .vcf because it probably does SIM contacts only. But no matter - either one can be imported to Gmail.

Thanks so much for your help, Crashdamage and EarlyMon! I really appreciate it.

So, roughly speaking, the options I will relay to my uncle are:

- Via USB or Bluetooth, export the contacts from the flip phone to the computer as a .CVS file. Then, import the .CVS file to Gmail--and when the Android is getting set up the Gmail contacts will sync with it.
- Explore the possibility of transferring the contacts directly from phone-to-phone via Bluetooth.
- Get the mobile carrier/service provider to perform the transfer.

Thanks again!
