Transfer pictures

Hi, my laptop Windows 10 does not see all of the pictures in the DCIM folder. When I go to the DCIM folder on my phone you can see all of my pictures. So the laptop is only seeing half of the pictures? Please help. Thanks. Not just my laptop I also tried another PC
 
How do you go to your DCIM folder on your phone? With the gallery or Google Photos? You are probably only seeing thumbnails of those images that have been moved to the cloud.

Is there any pattern to it? Only the newest photos show, or don't show? Only those taken with the camera, or a certain size or resolution? I'm trying to wrap my head around why you'd only get a partial directory listing.

When you open the gallery app, are all the photos there?

When I open the gallery all of the pictures are there.
On the laptop it roughly shows half of the pictures. All in order but only the second half of years worth. The first half do not show on the laptop
 
I'd be curious to see what happens if you try to copy the DCIM folder itself to your PC? If the files are there, but simply not listed, you will either get a prompt about copying a file windows doesn't understand or it will copy even the files you don't see ... and then you should see them.

Well I don't use Windows so I can't help you there, but may I suggest a solution/workaround that works on most platforms(windows,linux,mac).

On your phone install Airdroid from the playstore. Then in your browser on your PC open the airdroid website. On your phone open airdroid and scan the barcode on your pc screen with the airdroid app.

This will connect your phone to your PC wirelessly and you'll have access to both your internal & external SD from your pc web browser and in turn your DCIM. I've been using airdroid for quite a long time and has never failed me.

Only other thing I can think of is a possible file in your DCIM folder blocking access to those images. I don't remember the name exactly, but I came across it a long time ago. I think it's called nomedia, but not sure. If there, simply deleting it or renaming it and rebooting should fix it.

the '.nomedia' file will only prevent Android from scanning that folder for any media, it shouldn't affect Windows. I'm thinking that those image are either in the cloud or there's another DCIM folder on the OP's phone somewhere.

Hello, that app worked. I cant transfer the files straight across in a group for some reason I have to open each each picture to save as which will take some time. But its better than not getting them at all. Thank you both for helping.

I think you're right about this as I myself have 2 DCIM folders. One in the internal sd and the other in the external sd both with images.

It should let you download the entire folder containing the images. At least that's how I do it.

Glad you got the issue somewhat fixed.

edit:
forgot to mention that when using airdroid you should connect over wifi for fast transfers.
