Help Transfer Samsung to Oneplus using Macbook

Hey! I'm using Smartswitch to backup my Samsung and want to transfer everything onto my new Oneplus, but I'm using a Macbook... any advice please on overcoming this!?

Don't use SmartSwitch. It will only work transferring files into a Samsung. It won't work to transfer files from Samsung to a different brand. Samsung won't like you leaving them. They make it easy to transfer to Samsung, but hard to replace them.

Mostly you'll just have to build everything else back from scratch if you haven't been syncing to Google.

Frankly the easiest solution is a new iPhone and not a OnePlus. :) I have MacBooks myself, and few months ago I went from an Oppo to a Samsung Note7, and back again to Oppo a few weeks later. So I was basically what @chanchan05 stated. Transferring from one Oppo phone to another Oppo is very easy, don't even need a computer for that.

As @chanchan05 referred to, don't expect Samsung utilities to be too helpful as far as migrating to a different brand. As for Google, it's kind of odd that it hasn't made it very easy to even migrate from an existing Android install to a new one. Apple has its iTunes/iCloud making it simple and for the most part seamless to jump from iPhone to iPhone. With Android while there is a Backup feature buried in your phone's Settings there's not a lot of details being shown. It only covers Google services and even then it pertains more to settings and such, not user data we all tend to accumulate. So for photos and videos I'd recommend installing the Google Photos app on your Samsung phone. If you have large photo library and a lot of videos keep in mind this could take a while depending on the upload speed (opt for WiFi unless you have actual unlimited cellular). Once that initial backup is done (and note that it's really, really important you do have a working backup solution in place anyway), your photo/video library reside in both your current phone and in your online Google account. Once you install the Google Photos app on your OnePlus phone than just configure it the same way and that's about all you need to do (... well wait for all your photos and videos to download into your OnePlus).

For text messages, if you're using a third-party app it may have its own backup and restore function so you can just backup your texts on your Samsung and then restore them on your OnePlus. A good alternative is the SMS Backup & Restore app. The resulting file itself can then be backed up if you send it to yourself as an email attachment.

If you have a large music collection I don't have any suggestions for automated backup/restore apps. If you have a microSD card in your Samsung than hopefully your OnePlus has support for cards too, an external microSD card will make things easier for a lot of other things too.
As for things like email, contacts, and your calendar(s) if you rely on a service like Gmail those three items are a part of your Google account so you should be OK as it's just a matter of setting up our Google account on your OnePlus to have things transferred over. But if you're using a different email service, that depends on which one.
