Transparent screen protector for the "camera lense" of the phone

When cellphone with camera exist (and long before smart phone exist), I used to see store selling transparent protector for the lense of the camera (of the phone).

They are like a little circle with a tail and you just stick it on the lense, to prevent it from being scratched.

But I cannot find any of camera lense protector anymore.

I wonder if a cut-out of screen protector would work ? And would it affect the quality of the photo ?

Failing that, I have heard of people cutting a regular screen protector no problem. You'd have to be careful re dust and bubbles etc, but I'm sure it would work.
