Shouldn't be an issue. Only difference will be you won't be able to get LTE speeds, but you are used to not having it, so no change. I believe you will need to get a sim through either at&t or t-mobile (these are the GSM carriers using the same 1800mhz freq that Oz uses. People in the US have bought the international S3 and have no issues.
And you can either use a pc to always charge your phone here or buy a travel adaptor for the smaller US plugs.
Only thing of concern is being able to use a pay and go sim card with a company like at&t. I have no idea how they work that with a high end phone like the S3?

I helped a gentleman from New Zealand with this issue about a month back and we determined that AT&T is the only national carrier in the USA which the NZ version of the S3 would work on (which appeared to be the international version). Assuming the OZ version is the same, you will likely have to use AT&T, unless there is some regional carrier using the same bands.
