Trouble syncing calendar with desktop/laptop

I am having trouble getting the calendar on my Note 2 to sync up with the calendar on either my desktop or laptop. I currently use the default calendar app that came with the phone from Verizon. I also have the Google calendar app loaded on the phone. If I enter an appointment in calendar (default), it syncs it up with the Google calendar app that is on my phone but not with the Google calendar that I can pull up from my desktop/laptop. If I enter an appointment in the Google calendar from my laptop/desktop, it syncs up with both the default calendar app and the Google calendar app that is on the phone.

Anyone have any suggestions?

When you set the appointment on the phone make sure under Calendar it is colored blue and it has your gmail account listed. I was doing this myself until I saw I was setting up appointments for just the phone (the calender listed will be green).
