Trouble with WEP security

OK! I continue to have trouble changing an incorrectly entered WEP security code. I tried a long press of the WiFi icon in trouble. With 4.0, IceCream Sandwich it imediately pops to "connect to network" and does not allow me to edit the WEP. I tried to "forget" the connection but as soon as I "add a network" and tap the service it says" secured by WEP and I do not get the option to change it.
I have gone as far as doing a reset back to factory default settings. When I select the WiFi network it says again, secured by WEP and I cannot find a way to change it.
I am helpless and cannot connect to the internet with my tablet.

Could you change the network name on the router? Not ideal i realise but i don't know what else to suggest

A hard reset should have forgotten all data relating to networks.

To recap
Select network
Forget network
Turn off wifi on device
Reconnect wifi on device
Scan for networks **
Enter correct wep code

At this point ** if you have changed the network name it should work. You may be able to leave the name the same and change the type of security.
