I bought a Pebble smartwatch as part of the kickstarter campaign but have hardly used it since receiving it. I really only used it when I was driving solo in the car, so that I could see who a call or text message was from without having to stop the car (I will not touch my phone while I am driving), and the Pebble is great for that. Otherwise, meh - it's a little unattractive, it needs to be recharged every four or five days, and the available watchfaces just don't excite me.
However, with the Maxx and the support for trusted bluetooth device unlocking, suddenly the Pebble is a lot more functional. Now I have the phone protected with pattern unlock (which, by the way, is worse on the Maxx than it was on the Droid 3 or my old Eris - there is something about it that makes me mis-hit the pattern on occasion) but, so long as I am wearing the Pebble, the phone is automatically unlocked on power up.
I did try using a Pebble-aware app and watchface called Glance for a while, and that makes the Pebble better - battery % left for the phone is displayed, as well as the time, date, and the weather, and you can look at messages and even reply to them from the Pebble. However, I had a spontaneous reboot two nights ago and, suspecting the Glance app, I've since removed it and gone back to a simple Pebble connection and watchface.
And, of course, if the reboot enough wasn't enough to irritate me, I had to listen to the stupid "DROIDDD" notification during the boot animation....
