Trying to install old Google Maps 6.8

Hi all,

So I had my Galaxy S3 which came with the old Google 6.8 and earlier. I hat the new Google Maps because I can't use my old saved maps with it so whenever I would get an update I would uninstall the update and run the older version. I was happy with it. So now I have upgraded my phone to the Galaxy S5 and of course it comes with the new Google Maps which I despise! So the question is has anyone tried to install an older version of Google Maps? I have done some searching around and found some old version .apk downloads and tried to install them but every time I get an "app not installed" error. I also searched that and haven't found a solution for it. Appreciate any help that anyone can offer. Thanks.

Hi whodeani,

If your device shipped with the new version of Google Maps, you're not going to be able to replace that version without root. Android won't let you install an older version on top of a newer one, and you won't be able to get rid of the newer version since it's a system application.

In that case, you should be able to use a File Manager or something like Titanium Backup to back up and uninstall the Google Maps system package. Reboot, and then you should be able to install that older version of maps.
