First off let me say that I am completely new to attempting to modify an android in any way so I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm going back to my droid 1 after my other phone broke, and I just want to be able to run new apps such as Spotify that aren't compatible with the old versions of android (I'm running 2.2.3) as well as be able to use rooted apps like power to volume since my power button is not working. I've downloaded all necessary files and I think I understand what to do to root my phone, however without my power button I can't get to bootloader by restarting my phone while holding up on the d pad. I would use an app like quickboot or other similar apps to get to bootloader but these all require rooted devices. I can't get to bootloader without a rooted device and I can't root my device without getting to bootloader so I feel like i'm in a real catch-22 situation and it's pissing me off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe this is a boneheaded question, but why not just get the power button fixed? If you don't have the tools or desire to do it yourself a repair shop wouldn't charge much.
