Trying to understand how to work a device

Hi,

Please bear with me with this, as I will try to explain this the best way I can.

I have recently obtained a new Galaxy Tab 3, courtesy of my son who got a new phone and the tablet thingy came in the package. He said he has no use for it, so I have got it. But the problem is I have recently been dragged screaming from the equivalent of the 19th Century (Nokia basic phone), into the 21st Century (Galaxy Ace 2).

So seeing as the tablet does not have 3G internet, I am going to use it as a sort of store for all of my files that I need, from my main home Vista 64 bit computer. I have found out that when I connect the tablet via USB to my computer, I can Copy/Paste folders to the tablet like I did with the Galaxy Ace 2 phone.

But I am wondering if I can somehow, Copy/Paste the folders onto the main 3 screens that come up as the Homepage? As I would like to have the folders and some PDF files on these three sections, so that they will be easier to find. Because I like the larger screen size of the tablet, which could help me to keep a lot of my work files on something apart from my home computer.

So is there a section or folder for the Homepage, in the section on the tablet called My Files? Into which I can Copy/Paste the files and PDF's I want easy access to.

To be honest the last device I had for this purpose was a Sharp 1MB notepad thingy, so this tablet that can hold a 32GB card is like a godsend for me.

I hope I have explained this properly, if not I will try another way.

So you would like a file on the homescreen, for example, xyz123.pdf?
And when you touch it, the pdf file would open?
Not sure as I think you can only add apps and widgets to a homescreen. :hmmmm:
Do I understand you correctly?

The following works for me to put files/folders on the homescreen. AFAIK you can't copy files from the computer directly to the homescreen, but after copying them to your phones/tablets storage:

1. Download ES File Explorer:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop
2. Choose to put a Widget on your homescreen, and select ES File Explorer.
3. It will let you select a file or folder.

Hi,

Mikestony - Yes that is what i am thinking about, somehow i can either add the file itself or a shortcut to it on the Hompage.

kate - Thank you for the link, i will give this app a try.

Hi,

I have just tried the program, and it works. I now have some of the PDF's on one of the Homepages i have on the tablet.

I cannot thank everyone enough for helping me, as this will make my carrying around and accessing my information so much easier.
