Hello I Just Recently Bought My Wife A D2 - 712 Internet tab. I tried launching the face book app but was prompted to do an upgrade I have had no luck even begging an update how do I update this tablet?

What was the prompt for? Upgrading the Facebook app or the tablet itself?

Go to Settings > About tablet (scroll all the way down to see) > System updates > Check for updates. If none is available all you can do is:
A. Wait for the manufacturer to release a updated version of Android. Not likely to happen.
B. Try to root the tablet and install a custom ROM of a newer version of Android.
I did a couple of quick Google searches about option B and didn't find a lot. Seems it may be rootable but it doesn't appear there's been much interest in ROM development.
You kinda have what you have. You just can't expect much support for low-end devices like this.
