TSA Searches on different modes of Transportation

We've had the TSA search discussion ad infinitum.

However, one of the key statements from people who support the TSA searches was always "You can always choose a different mode of transportation".

TSA is currently using it's checkpoints in Airports, Train Stations, Subways, and even highway checkpoints.

So, now that you have no other option that guarantees you won't have an invasive search... do you still think the TSA searches are justifiable?

The program these additional searches are performed under is TSA VIPR program.

So... what do you think? Does this make it less acceptable?

Documents Reveal TSA Research Proposal To Body-Scan Pedestrians, Train Passengers

Giving Transportation Security Administration agents a peek under your clothes may soon be a practice that goes well beyond airport checkpoints. Newly uncovered documents show that as early as 2006, the Department of Homeland Security has been planning pilot programs to deploy mobile scanning units that can be set up at public events and in train stations, along with mobile x-ray vans capable of scanning pedestrians on city streets.

The non-profit Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) on Wednesday published documents it obtained from the Department of Homeland Security showing that from 2006 to 2008 the agency planned a study of of new anti-terrorism technologies that EPIC believes raise serious privacy concerns. The projects range from what the DHS describes as

Yeah, I saw this. It really really concerns me as far as privacy goes.

I can't imagine that the people who WERE ok with it in airports would be ok with it in these scenarios.

here we go again. Everybody grab a stick.

What are they searching for? Guns? I have at least one on me at all times. What does that prove? I can understand public transportation....though it's constitutionally illegal. But civilians walking on a sidewalk? There's no way they have the resources or a structured plan to make this feasible.

For the record I am not ok with the type of searches the TSA does in airports. Though I believe they have the legal right to search people. In addition to this the searches at airports are ineffective so I'm not sure why we have them.

This really isn't a bad situation though if it were to happen. You can only push people so far before they push back...eventually the public will have enough of this non-sense.

So, you are ok with them searching Airports, Bus stations, Train stations... and even random road side searches...?

Crude's post was very easy to understand to see his point of view on things without pulling certain sentences out and skewing them to further bolster a view or agenda against the topic at hand in my opinion.

But to the further infestation of the TSA into other private corporation modes of transportation is downright bad but it is at their discretion.

For public transportation to institute TSA into bus tops, sidewalks, highway checkpoints, subways, etc is completely wrong. Since these modes of transportation are maintained by local, state, federal monies which are in turn funded by the voters and should be up for vote whether to add TSA measures. Now we all know that isn't going to be the case in this world we live in under "sell the fear" mentality

For my personal opinions on the TSA is that this department is a reactionary knee jerk waste of public funds and as far as beating a dead horse, why is it wrong to discuss it again, would it be better to not talk about it and just forget it, let the chips fall where they may.

I hate to "pull these out of context", but here are a couple of reasons why the post was NOT easy to understand.

I can understand public transportation....though it's constitutionally illegal. But civilians walking on a sidewalk? There's no way they have the resources or a structured plan to make this feasible.

In two consecutive sentences he states, that he understands them, and is not ok with them. They are constitutionally illegal, but they have a legal right to do them.

So, no... you'll have to excuse me if it wasn't crystal clear to me.
