Turn off Mobile Data during sleep?

I know you can do this for wifi but can't you do it for mobile data? My old droid did this and it was great, it wouldn't chew through battery and I didn't have to turn it off and on all the time manually. Or at the very least are there any free apps that do this?

I'm not sure about apps (although I'm sure there is one) but you could do this with an NFC tag. You can program an NFC tag to turn off mobile data and place it where you set your phone down at night. Then when you place your phone on the tag it will turn off mobile data. You can program the tags to do all kinds of functions.

There's a free app called Llama that I'm pretty sure can do this, although I don't use it because I have Tasker, which is a paid app and does more.

However, because it can only turn mobile data off on versions of android before 2.3, you will also need to download Secure Settings, which is a plugin compatible with both Tasker and Llama, and I believe this should give you the option to turn off mobile data with a profile.

I want it to turn off when it sleeps, not just when I sleep. It's usually plugged in when I sleep so it's not a big deal. I mainly just want it to turn off when I'm at work and haven't used it in a while, there's no reason it needs to be connected to a mobile network if I haven't looked at it in 2 hours. I'd rather it sync and do everything else when I wake it up.

Cool, thanks I'll try that!

The other one to use is Juice Defender. You can have it disable mobile data completely when the screen is off, or the default (which is a configurable time period) is to re-enable mobile data briefly every 15 minutes to let email and stuff to sync.

That's exactly what I'm looking for, thanks! Not sure why Android gives you the option to do this fr wifi but not mobile data. Nonetheless, that should work, thanks again.

Just so you know, that wifi sleep policy is s known battery drain.

Which policy? You mean it will use more battery if wifi is off during sleep?

Edit: I just realized my phone is set to keep wifi on during sleep only when plugged in, but it doesn't appear that wifi ever shuts off. Does this happen to anyone else?
