Turn Off OK Google but Keep Widget

I've gone through several tutorials to try and disable OK Google voice detection on my Galaxy S9. Even with the slider(s) off in the settings, it still detects me saying OK Google. It occurred to me, maybe having the Google Widget or toolbar overrides this setting? I would like to keep the Google widget on my screen but still turn off the always-on voice detection. Solutions?? Thanks.

Hi, have you tried deleting the voice model in Voice settings?

That is the same as on my device, but if you switch it on you should be able to delete the voice model which will switch it off again and stop the voice response.

If you should want to use it in the future just switch it on again. You might have to go through the Retrain procedure but I found my HTC 10 had actually retained it.

So "delete" didn't mean "delete". That's not encouraging...

(Actually when I deleted it from my Pixel it did indeed delete, because I tested it a second time and had to retrain. But I'm completely done with Assistant, so don't know how to keep the widgets working without the voice).

Yes, I thought it was rather odd so have repeated the process and taken some additional screenshots.

I can stop voice response by either changing the status of 'Access with voice response' or 'Delete voice model'. However, if I use the first method I can switch voice response on and off with no further action but using the second method I go through additional steps as shown :-

Screenshot 1 appears and when I tap 'I agree', screenshot 2 appears followed by a 'Please wait’ then a slight pause followed by screenshot 3. If I tap 'Continue', voice response is reinstated.

Screenshot 2 appears only briefly so I didn't take it all in the first time .

I have used 'OK Google' on my previous two devices so it's clever old Google again, presumably recovering the recording from my Google account.

Uninstall Google Assistant G app will act in it's place if you ever need it in the future.
Cheers..
