Turn off phone with home button?

Hi guys,
I did search this but found no matches. Sorry if this has been covered before.

I'd like to turn the phone off (not completely shut it down, just put it in the usual standby mode) with the home button. After a few months with the phone, I still can't get used to putting the phone into standby mode with the side-mounted power button.

Since there seems to be no other use for the short tap on the home button while on the idle screen, it seems that a "go to sleep" function should be an option. Can this be done?

You can use on screen widgets to put the phone in standby mode.
Try widgetsoid or similar apps, there are many give that feature.
