Help Turning phone on from standby, one too many steps?

When I turn my phone on from stand-by I get the message "screen locked press menu to unlock" but I have also setup the security code where you have to draw a pattern to unlock the phone. I now have to go through two stages to unlock my phone...

I know I could remove the security pattern but is there any way to remove the "press menu to unlock" so I just use the security pattern?

OK I found two solutions, neither are perfect but they work...

1. If you bring the phone out of standby using the menu button you go straight to the security pattern entry screen

2. if you bring the phone out of standby by any method when the screen is flipped open you go straight to the security pattern screen

Yeah, using the menu button will "skip" a step and just bring up the pattern screen.

I mean with any other phone, when you unlock, it tells you you need to do another step.

I do sometimes like having that little status screen when you press the end key to revive the phone. I do that to check the time and see if I have new notifications.
