Help Turrible battery drain on my wife's Nexus 5, halp?

An-bros!

My wife's Nexus 5 has been leaking battery like a mutha hugga since yesterday.

She just got a fitbit and we thought that might have been the problem (I expected having bluetooth on all day would have some impact on battery life, but her phone is dropping like 20% an hour!) so the first thing we did was change the settings on that so that was only syncing when she opens the app (disabled background syncing) but that didn't fix the problem.

When I check the battery app built into the phone it has "Exchange Services" as the main battery user see below:

But GSam Battery Monitor tells a different story...

I really don't know what I'm looking at with any of that stuff, I tried clearing the data and cache for "Exchange Services" but it hasn't helped.

Can anyone offer any advice as to what is causing this and how to fix it? I'm figuring a factory reset could be in my future, but I'm weary of doing that if either a) there's a way to resolve the issue without having to do it and
b) I don't want to factory reset if it's not actually going to fix the issue.

The phone is running 5.0.1, stock, not rooted.

Thanks!

Unchecked "sent" sync in Exchange settings within Gmail under "Folder sync settings" and report back.

Of course it didn't show up on Gsam. Exchange is a part from Gmail app now.

Thanks for the reply, I'll give it a go and let you know what happens.

Just charge until full and battery stats will reset.

And unchecked "download attachments via WiFi" for better deep sleep.

I sometimes get that too. It did help me to turn down email syncing to only once or twice a day. Anything else that syncs (such as weather apps) should also be done the same way, but I think your issue is elsewhere. I also regularly see it when I play "a certain game," especially when it doesn't close properly. I would figure it would tell on that game but it says "android system" instead.

I have also seen one of my phones defect and have crappy battery life with no other major complications. That's another story for another time though.

I looked in account settings again and her hotmail was doing the crazy syncing dance so I deleted the account and added it again, hopefully that will sort her out.

OK, so I had the same issue as well a while back. I fixed it by selecting the account that is causing the issue, and changing the sync frequency to every hour. After that, force stop the app, and then open it again. Chances are the account will be currently set to push.

It is worth stating that exchange email is a problem in lollipop, and numerous bugs have been reported to google, and I know that a lot of them have been assigned to devs to fix.

I would also recommend downloading BetterBatteryStats by Sven. It is amazing in these situations. You need root to fully take advantage, but it is well worth it to root, even if only until you fix this issue. Once you install BBS, you will be prompted by the app to install as a system app. Do it.

Once you have it installed, leave the phone unplugged for a while, and then select 'partial wakelocks' from the top drop down. It will tell you exactly what service of what app is keeping the phone awake. BBS is essential in these types of situations. Once you have a source for the drain, you can address and fix it.

Did anyone realize that another name for a lolipop is a sucker? Hopefully this doesn't indicate Google's opinion of their users. [emoji14]

Odd. When I upgraded to stock 5.0.1 it doubled my battery life. Moving on to CM nightlies yielded even more. Something to consider. CM devs are doing a better job with Sucker than Google ;)

Hopefully battery hogging won't be to Lolipop like stability was for Froyo/Gingerbread. I'm finding these battery issues often with Android 5.x, and Android 2.x was horrid. You may do well by breaking off a piece of that Kit Kat bar.
