TV Repair .. or get a new TV?

my 5 yr old LG LCD 47" TV has developed an odd issues.
1080, 120 hz, great picture when I first got it.

now it is hard to turn on.. I have to press the power button several times and wait for it to boot up and see if the picture shows up. Sound works.. I can hear the shows but no pictures.

and when the picture does come on.. there are many horizontal green lines jumping all over the screen.
and after a few minutes, sometimes it gets so bad that the whole screen go completely GREEN screen.
then I have to do the power off and on and hope the picture shows up.

I found a repair tech (from his home) that thinks he can fix it for about $100.
so .. do I fix the TV?
or do I find a new TV for about $400 - $500
(money is tight)

I am thinking.. I should fix it for $100.
then use it for 3 yrs or so.
then I can get a new TV then.. with all the new features.

do u think my issue is related to the power supply capacitors?

the tech said he saw this many times.. and it is normally some "ball" that need to be replaced.

Many things that use switched-mode power supplies that have become difficult to start after a few years, it's quite often bad electrolytic capacitors. Although the video malfunction could be something else entirely different, and you'll possibly be buying a new TV.

I bought a Panasonic Viera 50 inch plasma for 280 bucks delivered....be patient a good deal will come along TV is not really a necessity just wait on Craigslist and find a good deal.

Tvs depreciate in value.... So yeah putting money into an expensive TV is not smart because the value of it drops every month...
