two apps side by side keeps popping up

I never did dual apps. However every now and the I click on a app and I get split screens with something like This does not support this and I like to know how I am doing this and how to disable.

You're looking to disable multi-window? AFAIK, it appears you can't do this without root.

Left button next to home button and if you click on the double window icon left from the x you get it double

Just click left instead of right if you want to open something. Or in the middle. But not on the double-window-button...

And don't swipe from right upper corner to left lower corner. That also does it...
