Help Two Droid Razr Maxx HD Questions

mindfu

Lurker
Hey. : ) So, I have a Razr Maxx HD on Verizon. I was using Foxfi for streaming, but then it was disabled. Is there any way, including rooting, to unblock Foxfi and be able to create a Wifi hotspot again?

And perhaps related, my current OS is 4.4.2 . The most recent is apparently 4.4.4, but I can't seem to find it to upgrade. Is Verizon not releasing it yet, or is there some way I can get it which I don't understand?

Thanks much!

Not too sure about foxfi, rooting should allow some options but not too sure again. I do know under my current plan with Verizon they include hot spot, maybe time for a plan upgrade?

4.4.2 is Verizon's current allowed OS, root the device and maybe find a custom rom? I have looked shortly for a 4.4.4 custom rom but have not seen once specifically for the Droid Razor Maxx HD, so find a rom before rooting the device.

A heads up is there is some upgrade in the wind that will be coming but not too sure where it will get us, just beware accepting it may then disable the ability to root the device.

FoxFi doesn't work with KK. You have to root and then use this hack to get it working:

[MOD][4.4.2]Native Tether Hack for build 183… | Droid RAZR HD | XDA Forum

If you do happen to be on the latest soak test build (183.46.14 or 183.46.15), then you don't want to copy the build.prop file as it will contain 183.46.10 strings in it and you'll keep getting OTA notifications. You DO want to rename the Entitlement files though.

Instead, pull the build.prop down to your PC and add the following line to it at the bottom:

net.tethering.noprovisioning=true

Save the file, push it back up to /system, ensure the permissions are set to rw-r--r-- (owner: read/write, group: read, Others: read), reboot and profit!

On a side note too this, if you are rooted and go with CM11 M10 as your ROM then you will be on Android 4.4.4. Beware there is a bug where either you have to choose Static IP or disable compatibility features of some Routers.
