Two questions about TapFish

JohnJSal

Android Expert
1. I read a guide (albeit an iPhone guide) that said you could tap on a neighbor's fish and get information about it and even buy it, or at least see which fish to use to breed it. It also mentioned sending messages and gifts to neighbors. Do any of these features work for the Android version? Tapping on my neighbor's fish does nothing but scatter them.

2. What does the tank lock feature do?

Thanks!

As far as I can tell, no, you cannot look at any details about your neibhbors' fish. All you can do is clean their tanks and feed the fish for coins. I don't know what the lock tank does.

Yours are the only posts I've seen about this game on Androidforums. How do you like it? I am really addicted! I am tempted to buy fishbucks so I can start getting some more exotic fishes, but don't want to start down that road. I've managed to earn a few by downloading and trying the apps.

I enjoy it, but actually I just moved all my fish into the "storage"area so they won't die from neglect, because I'm getting a little burnt out with it. It's fairly repetitive with just feeding and cleaning.

I spent $10 on fishbucks just to try a few things, but yeah, I don't want to start spending money on the game.

My advice is to buy a few fishbucks just to get some of the better breedable fish and earn more coins. Play it until it's no longer fun, which is what I did.

By storage, you mean inventory?

Yeah, I should have specified, but I was posting from my Evo :)

So yeah, I moved them all to my inventory because I read (and I hope it's true) that while they are in the inventory, they don't need to be fed and they won't die.

Basically I'm taking a break from it, and I'm probably done with it. It was fun for a couple of weeks, but there's really nothing to do but feed them and clean the tank.

Probably what gives the game lasting value is breeding fish for different trophies, but the problem is that you need to buy most of them with Fish Bucks, and there is pretty much no way to get them except for buying them with real money. Like you, I wasn't interested in that kind of investment for a casual game.

Same here. Gave up after a couple of weeks - had lots of tanks and making tens of thousands of coins but the fish bucks are a big restriction. Most of the time you don't get them when you download apps so you get bored quickly.

I have no idea what locking a tank does...and i've read some things about the iphone version and it has different fish and prices so i think being able to get info about friends' fish is limited to their version

I haven't gotten too bored with the game yet since reaching higher levels unlocks new fish...I'm looking forward to buying some sharks, etc...I've spent about $20 on fish bucks but I pretty much have used them all on buying the high dollar breedable fish like the Sailfin Tang and the new Flower Fish that came out yesterday or sometime recently.

The Banded Butterfly fish are the best as far as making coins; 24 hour breed time, 80 coin egg cost (x50 = 4000 per tank) and if your happiness is >90% you can batch sell the tank for about 9600 coins

however as far as experience, Green Snappers are the way to go...since they only take 4 hours to grow, you can get lots of experience from them...lets say you have 10 tanks with 50 green snappers each...in 4 hours, you'll make 500 xp from planting the 500 fish eggs, another 1000 xp for batch selling each tank and another 10-20 from feeding and loving the fish...thats over 1500 xp in 4 hours, which you can do multiple times per day

it gets repetitive though, i wish you could buy and plant and feed 50 eggs in a batch way like selling instead of having to manually tap your screen 100 times per tank including food

feel free to add my tank if you want, i try to have some good variety, its called TreeTank

well, cleaning and feeding is about all you can do with real fish too and they are a lot more trouble! I enjoy the buying and selling at a profit and also visiting neighbors. Some people have some spectacular tanks and have obviously spent a lot of real money. The breeding is fun but so slow. I got lucky with the first one I bred , the green clown, because with happiness points I sold it for nearly 2000 and bought a new tank. I didn't realize that none of the other starter hybrids were worth that much.

I wish there was more opportunity to buy a new fish with coins at each succeeding level instead of having to wait until the zillionth level to get something new. I am still working to get to level 8!

TreeTank I will visit you. Thanks for the tip about the green snapper being the best for xp but it is a pain to have to buy and feed one at a time. At starter level, the yellow heartfish is the most profitable.

By the way, if friends or random neighbors visit you and clean your tan and/or feed your fish, does that "count" towards the fish being looked after? i.e., if you forget to do it for 48 hours but someone else visits you, will your fish be saved?

I finally figured out Lock Tank and it's very useful! It prevents you from selling fish from that tank.

I'm saying it's useful because I think I had mistakenly sold a breedable fish that I had used fishbucks to buy. I have one bred fish from it but I can't find the original parent (Yellow Longnose - not one of the high-value ones, but still...).

BTW, did your fish survive in inventory without you visiting them and feeding them?

And yeah, I finally broke down and spent $20 to get some fishbucks with which I bought a new breeding tank and the high-value breedables. I have also bought quite a few things with free fishbucks I earned by downloading apps - most of which I have since uninstalled. I'm determined to limit my real expenditure to this initial investment because $20 is a lot to spend on a phone app! - it's actually the first real money I've spent on any app so far!

I got to level 43 today (lots of Green Snappers grown and harvested), and in addition to getting a bonus of coins, I think 2500, I got a bonus fishbuck

I'm hoping that every time I gain a level from now on I get at least one fishbuck, hopefully more the higher the levels

It takes awhile to get to level 43, but just a heads up for anyone who wants fishbucks but doesnt want to spend real money on them...hopefully you get some for every level from 43 and on

also the Sailfin Box (Sailfin Tang + Boxfish breed) can be sold as an adult with 90%+ happiness for 75675 coins!!

Wow, how long did it take you to get to level 43?
I have the Sailfin Tang and Boxfish, so am looking forward to breeding. Today I made over 50,000 coins with a glowfish/sailfin hybrid.

It probably took me 2-3 weeks to get to level 43...although early on my XP was growing a lot slower, but the more tanks I added, the higher XP

I have a total of 20 tanks, and I use about 15 of them for breeding...you can progress through levels pretty quickly with 2-3 batches full of Green Snapper a day, although the XP required to gain levels goes up from 5000xp per level to 10000xp per level once you get to 100,000 xp

one thing i did just see on the game developer's website is "Free fishbucks after level 40!"

i didnt notice the free fishbuck until level 43, but at levels 40 and 42 specifically, i was more excited about being able to unlock new fish (i think Shark at 40 and Kribensa at 42) that i might not have noticed them

i have a full grown Sailfin Box that i havent sold in my tank 20 / FavBreed tank if you want to see it since you're a neighbor, its the orange fish with black spots

but you did a good job buying the Sailfin Tang, if I had to recommend ONE single breedable fish to yield the highest results with breeding, it would be the Sailfin Tang...I mean the Sailfin Snapper (Sailfin + Green Snapper) will sell for over $41000 with 90% happiness

I have every breedable fish myself, but the Sailfin Tang + Boxfish is the highest priced breedable fish that I've noticed while scanning through the trophy values

I'm looking forward to selling my tank full of Swordfish in about an hour when they're full grown adults...with 57 minutes left a batch sell would yield me over 689,000 coins, and thats with the 15% commission:)

thanks for the tip about locking tanks too, just locked my Skid Row tank which is full of all my breedable fish

How are you able to breed the sailfin box so quickly? Didn't the boxfish just become available a couple of days ago?

I made myself an excel spreadsheet with all the combinations of breedable fish in order to figure out the best buys for my limited fishbucks.I'm determined not to spend any more than the $20 I've spent already!

You must be spending a lot of time to get to this level already. Such an addictive game!
which is your favorite hybrid fish so far? -TapRos

I bought the Boxfish the day it came out and had an open breeding slot, then I accidentally bred another one

I like the Glow Rainbow and Glow Bannerfish a good bit

I basically sell and plant new eggs in the morning after I wake up and feed them, and make sure to do the same thing at least once before I go to bed...if you have enough tanks it doesn't take as long as you think

got to level 44 earlier today and got another free fishbuck!

BTW, did your fish survive in inventory without you visiting them and feeding them?

I can't say for sure because I have since uninstalled the app, but I've read on the Facebook page that moving them to the inventory will prevent them from dying of malnutrition. Hopefully that's the case! :)

I had to reinstall the app after doing a few things with my phone, and I was able to recover all my fish/coins/fishbucks/tanks etc by going to 'About Tap Fish' in the lower left corner of the menu screen, then selecting 'Restore Game'

So if you ever did want to reinstall it, you should be able to restore all of your data

Thanks. I was assuming the data was stored on a server anyway, so uninstalling didn't matter.

You do have a bunch of nice fish. The one thing that bugs me is that the tanks keep increasing in cost and that one can't get more than two breeding tanks without paying for fishbucks.

I think it's perfectly reasonable for the developers to make money by selling fishbucks and it really is a well designed app but I also think they charge way too much.

How many breeding tanks do you have and Have you used fishbucks to speed up the breeding?

That's good to know you don't lose everything if something happens to your phone!

I have 5 breeding tanks. I have used the fishbucks to speed up breeding once or twice in an effort to have all my tanks staggered

In other words, I get a new breed of fish every 12-15 hours instead of getting them all at once, then having to wait 3 days for the next batch
