Txt alerts

I just got the S3 and when I first started using it the text alerts were coming in...however they stopped doing it and no matter what I do they wont come back. This is my first android phone so maybe I'm just doing something stupid but I would appreciate any help you could give me. The sound isn't muted or on vibrate, I have a notification sound picked, and even in the alerts section where there is the wifi gps options etc I have the sound on there as well.

Do you have a solid grey arrow in the top left? If so, swype your finger from the top of the screen downwards, then from right to left across the buttons that appear, and you should see a greyed out notification button. Tap that.
