Help TXT message notification wakes lock screen?

Just picked up a new Galaxy S5 over the weekend. One question about TXT message notifications - when I get a TXT message, my screen wakes up and I get a yellow notification bar on my screen telling me I have a text message.

Can anybody verify if this is a normal behavior? I tried out an app to modify the lockscreen, then deleted it...so I'm not sure if what I'm seeing is normal stock behavior, or if the app somehow screwed things up a bit. Thanks.

Check your message settings. I believe the option is in there to wake the screen and pop up

It is normal I would say as mine does the exact same thing and I have not done anything to modify the lockscreen. Hope this helps

Good to know. Any ideas on how to turn off the screen wake up? This is with the stock messaging app

Messaging settings->notifications and make sure pop up notifications if off. That's my best guess

I had the same problem, sadly nobody was able to help. I found the problem only existed when using the default messaging app. Switched to using 8sms today, which is basically a copy of the default kitkat google messaging app. Using hangouts for sms is also not a bad option.
