I was told by a verizon rep that it is cheaper do send "txts" on a international plan.

How do you you force Samsung Galaxy S to use txt messages?
 
If you have hangouts it is cheaper to send and receive and also call . this method works with WiFi to make it cheaper and wont get charged if your on WiFi.
 
Verizon gives international texting away with Edge Plans now.

Hangouts can't do voice calls to send texts to normal cell phones. Skype is the better VoIP if you do a lot of International Calling and texts.
