uk back up battery purchase?

I'm looking at buying a spare battery for a trip i'm taking. It doesn't need to be expensive or anything fancy. Just a spare for long coach trips.

I'm in over my head though and wary of buying something that may damage my phone. I've got two bookmarked..

Anker

I've never dealt with either, but from everything I've read here, everyone says to go with Anker. Neither one will damage the phone, Anker just seems to put out a good product.

Fully charge (until the phone tells you to remove the charger) the battery, then use it (tiyr normal usage pattern) until the phone tells you to recharge it. Do that for 3 cycles (3 charges, 3 discharges), recharge it at around the 50% discharge point, and you'll be ready to toss the old phone (and it will be old) long before the battery gives out.

Stay away from no-brand ebay battereies. A lot of the time they exaggerate the capacity, and some after awhile overheat and bulge up. Anker stuff is high quality, great support, and 18-months warranty.

But why wouldn't you buy an external battery? Again, Anker would be my recommendation choice (look into reviews posted in my signature link). If you get something like 2nd gen Astro (6000 mAh) for 26 pounds, it will last you for at least 2 full charges, it's very lightweight and small, and you can use it to charge up your phone or any other usb devices. Or better yet, get Astro Slim3 (also 6000 mAh and 26 pounds on UK amazon) with a built-in charging cable and super slim design where you can hold it together while charging and using your phone. Plus, once you move on to another smartphone, you can continue using it - external battery is universal ;)

Very helpful guys thanks.

I've been sensible and got a lot of advice and everything points towards the Anker battery so I'll be buying that this week. Gives me time to give it a few full charge/discharge cycles before my trip.

I'm wary of external battery's. Used two different types when i was on the dark side with my iPhone and neither did a very good job. At least with a standard battery I can just pop in the phone when the other ones charge is done and that's my phone good to go again.
