Unable to scan for networks

My tablet says "unable to scan for networks" every once in awhile, and turns itself off. I connects sometimes and sometimes not. I'm in the same location about 15 feet from the router. This is bizarre. Any clues?

What kind of tablet do you own and who's your carrier?

I'm having the same issue with three identical devices. WiFi Fixer does help.
