Root Underclock Nexus One

Yup.

You'll have to root it first though. Then it's as simple as grabbing SetCPU from the market. You can set up all kinds of profiles to have the CPU throttle back based on certain conditions.

Beyond that, you would move to Under Volting (UV'ing). That requires root and a custom kernel install. A lot more risky. The search of xda mentioned above will give you more than you care to know about these kernels.
 
I use Ivan's Kernel (see sig below) and its pretty efficient. It under volts from the stock 1,000 while still overclocking the cpu to 1.1ghz. He has an 825 volt version I believe as well which Im going to tryout this weekend.

Hey Enndr, do me a favor and update this thread with an overall review of how things are going with the seriously UV'ed kernels that you're trying.

I tried PsyQ's 925mV version and kept the clock at 998MHz. Didn't see much of a difference in battery life or performance.

I'd love to know how your experience pans out.
 
Sure thing. I've tried out 3 so far not including the one I'm running now.

I'm running intersectRaven's AVS 800mV kernel now and so far this one is my favorite.

I'll have to get back on this one because I'm at work right now and I guess I'll try to do some kind of formal write-up with equal test on each Kernel.

I'll keep you posted.

if you are using intersectRaven's kernel from yesterday (AVS 800mV), apparently he made a mistake with it and it's not really AVS, just the SVS. So he released a test version today, which is the "real" AVS hybrid 800mV; you many want to try that one

Yeah, I read that this morning but was at work. I'll have to get the new one when I get home tonight in a couple hours.

I'm thinking I might jump over to pershoot's again to see how he's doing... His stuff is usually pretty awesome.

i agree, Pershoot's kernel is more optimized; only reason i'm using Raven's is b/c his is undervolted to 800mV; pershoot won't go any lower than 925mV b/c of instability and he likes to create one that works for every N1; i'd actually go back to his if he went to around 850mV
 
I believe just using setcpu is probably the easiest way of "underclocking"
