Underwhelmed by camera.

Was testing out the camera yesterday, and realized that it somehow had bad resolution, or I have bad photo skills.
I took a dashcam picture of a simple street scene and not even a single nearby digit on a license plate was legible. This is important as I patrol a ginormous parking lot as a part of my job taking pictures of plates.

Can someone advise me of the best settings for the LG V30, or other solution?
Thanks.

FYI that attached image is 877x1559(which is about 1.3 megapixels), and only 100k in size, so it's either been heavily downscaled and fiercely compressed somehow, and isn't the original, or you need to look at the settings on the V30 camera, make sure it's set to the maximum image size and quality(least compression). Then you'll probably will see the car license plate details, like on the red Mini in the pic.

FWIW I just took a picture with my Mate 10, and it did clearly capture a moving taxi's license plate(鲁A T9826) from about 60-70 metres away.

This wasn't zoomed-in and camera was on default settings, it's only cropped.

Thanks! totally a noob at this. I am going to try it now.
Can I make it so that those values will be the default when I Open the Camera?
