Help Unexplained Batter Drain

rh11peter

Lurker
So i've had this Verizon LG G2 for about two months now, and for some reason, the battery is starting to inexplicably drain. For example, It went from 95 to 0 within a few hours, even though I keep my phone on airplane mode when I sleep. This has also happened a few times before, usually occurring directly after unplugging it when it has reached 100. Do you think I have a faulty set? Should I go to the Verizon store and see if they will give me a replacement? Help please, as I really enjoy this phone except this tiny issue is bugging me.

That's crazy - and it isn't TINY!

Did you scroll down below the graph and see what was the major consumer of battery? You should do this!

Is something attempting to do some reporting of your location, or synching something over WiFi?

Is this repeatable?

It is a very aggressive gain.

I had read in forums on VZW's site that people were complaining of their devices backing up to VZW's Cloud. I disabled all that stuff. I'm thinking maybe it's trying to backup, but with the unit in Airplane mode, it's just grinding. That is sooooo odd!

I also went into the settings on Tethering and networks, Mobile Networks, and selected Network Mode LTE/CDMA rather than Global. Other people were claiming that would impact battery drain.

I also changed my Settings | Location to "Battery saving" mode, and only enable "High Accuracy" when I need to use Google Nav/Maps.

Lastly, I find if I charge with my OEM charger, I get better battery longevity than if I charge using a USB port.

But honestly, if you've upgraded your phone and never did an FDR... you might want to consider it now, but AFTER you've backed up your stuff. The FDR might also clear out a rouge program download or setting that may be at root cause.

HTH.

That's terrible drain during sleeping. It almost seems as if it was doing video streaming or downloading big files constantly. But it can't be that as you said it was in airplane mode, which is very puzzling.

As stef said, please look below the battery graph and see what's eating battery like crazy. If that doesn't tell what's doing it, try GSAM battery monitor. FDR usually takes care of stuff like this, but it's good to know what was culprit.

Also do not leave GPS on when not using it and don't let Google map run in background after using it.
