Help Unidentified app has SMS permission?

Treemac

Lurker
Galaxy S7 Android 8.0.0 not rooted. From the settings>apps>app permissions menu it shows there are "3 of 8 apps allowed" under SMS permission. When I open the SMS permissions to to identify the apps there are only 2 of 7 possible apps listed as having that permission. When I go to "show system" from the menu it indicates an additional 3 system apps (5 total) of an additional 9 possible system apps (16 total) with SMS permission.

Welcome to Android Forums, Treemac!

I must say you've piqued my interest. I just checked my SMS settings, and found 11 of 17 listed under 'App Permissions.' Upon entering 'SMS permissions,' 11 are checked out of 14 possible; when I 'Show system,' 15 of a possible 21 are checked.

So, I haven't answered your question, just added further confusion that perhaps someone else can explain! :D

i have the galaxy s9+, I went and looked at my sms permissions, does anyone know what configuration message is or means, I hate to sound stupid but... lol. any input would be great

Can you tell us where you're seeing that? I looked in my SMS permissions and didn't see anything similar. A screenshot would be great!

I recommend an app called Exodus Privacy. It will screen every app & service on your device, then display them - along with the number of permissions each one has. It's color-coded: green apps are okay; yellow apps have questionable permissions that you are advised to look into; and red apps have permissions that Exodus flags as suspicious. You can easily see which apps are your potential troublemakers, and start cleaning up permissions.

I'm not familiar with that entry, or its icon. I'm guessing it's a system function, perhaps from Samsung, not Android. Maybe someone with Samsung experience will chime in.

By the way, in case you're not aware of this, to take a screenshot on Android just press and hold, simultaneously, the 'volume down' and 'power' buttons. It'll come out looking like this:

im an apple girl, this is my husbands phone. I found some stuff on his email last month that got me thinking and i decided to take a good look around in his phone. He swears hes been hacked. lol. so i put him on an iphone and started all new accounts for him. Verizon didnt seem to think he was hacked but stated we should change everything just to be sure. Is that a true possibility?
